On Saturday, 9/22/07, Josie delivered three adorable
Yorkie puppies!
Labor went well. Josie had a bit of a hard time, but on the
whole it went smooth. And the puppies are all healthy and Josie has piles of loving
energy! Our little girl was a trooper! |
The First Week
(I wish we would have had our digital scale to measure the puppies weights
in fractional ounces when the puppies were born....)

This is Uncle Pepper in the waiting room... He looks very interested, doesn't he?!
Actually he's been wonderful... Somewhere along the line Josie
must have told him he's not allowed to even look at her puppies, because
only on a rare occasion will he even dare to PEEK at them for only a
second.

Hard labor began for Josie at about 3:00 pm. We used the bottom of
her kennel and covered her lightly. She has always loved being in
her kennel and being covered up, and she seemed to find comfort in these
during labor as well. So much
for the newspaper that is under the fleece. She really liked the
fluffy fleece. Since we were keeping an eye on her during the entire labor
process we weren't worried about a puppy being suffocated in the folds
of the blanket. It washed up just fine and I'm glad we used it.
|
Here's our happy mama! Josie did a fantastic job of delivering and then cleaning the babies off.
The first and second puppies came within an hour of each other and then
Josie took a bit of a break before having the third. The first
puppy was a girl, and then we got 2 boys. The second puppy was
breech and Josie had the hardest time delivering him, but thankfully
everything ended up fine and the baby and mama were both well and happy.
|
Taking a much deserved rest together. Isn't this a sweet picture? Josie loves to snuggle up with her babies and gently lay her head over them.
|
It is the sweetest thing to see the little puppies snuggle up
together. The can't see or hear yet, but they instinctively "swim"
around and drag themselves either into a little pile together or burry
themselves in mom's fur while trying to find some milk to fill their
bellies.
|
The little threesome. Aren't they precious? The little
girl is names Riley Josephine. Her owners came to see her the
first night she was born. It's nice to think that Josie has a
namesake! We are still looking for homes for the boys. We
are very cautious about the homes our puppies are placed in.
|
I'm so glad Josie is such a happy, caring mama. She is totally
devoted to these puppies. We are continually amazed at how strong
her instinct is to guard, protect, and care for them.
